Therapy
I am having trouble dealing with accepting the fact I have epilepsy. If by chance anyone on here is from around the Indianapolis area and sees a therapists regarding epilepsy could you recommend me someone? I don't know where to start.
I don't live in that area, but I would think that almost any therapist could help. Mine has helped me out a lot and he isn't specialized or anything for people with epilepsy. They can give you the skills and coping mechanisms to handle the stress of dealing with epilepsy (or any disorder, illness, etc). Also, don't be afraid if the first one you talk to doesn't "match" with you. I talked to a couple before I found one that was right for me. If nobody here has a recommendation, I would say go online and look at the profiles of the therapists in your area and find some that you think you would be comfortable talking with, then make a call to their office to set up an appointment.
Back in oz I used to get a few people together that all had epilepsy either newly diagnosed or experienced.
Between us all we were able to help each other using shared experiences
It was hard to accept. Snuck up on me too.
what do you need, a speech therapist or a talking therapist? i have both but i live about 2 hours away. you need to start with a combo of asking your dr about a therapist and research therapist in indy. then when, you find one, just go to um.
