I work at a Harley Davidson and I had my first major seizure at work. I remember eating lunch and then next thing I know is that I'm being loaded into the ambulance
Apparently, I bust out into maniacal laughter then went into a normal seizure.. I hate being home so much. I love my job! And ive been out for a full week.. is there any way to expedite myself going back to work? This medication is NOT helping me at all.. I still have seizures but now I'm in a hell of a lotta pain, dizzy, and with… read more

It sounds like you're drug resistant or your neurologist hasn't found the best combination of medicine to control them. I am drug resistant because I have been on every seizure medicine out there and are still having them, tho fewer on average. Pain. Because I was a stubborn moron who didn't want to let my doctor know I was having quite a few gran mals a week (I was active duty at the time), I had to have my entrie right shoulder and back bone replaced. All my fault.

Do have seizures while you're sleeping? When mine first started the majority happened in my sleep. I would wake up the next morning and feel as if I ran three triatholans. I just had one last night.

One great thing about my job and where I work, when I have a serious seziure, an ER is literally up a flight of stairs from my office and I have been given accomodations if I do have to miss work because of them.

Gelastic epilepsy is epilepsy that is.. well.. gelastic. You laugh really. Really hard. And I pay for insurance through work.

I am not familiar with your epilepsy(but curious and will look it up) but one thing I do know is if you have a seizure at work as I did, you will be given a week off to recover. While you are away insurance comes knocking on the business door asking questions. There main interest is, how does the company feel about insurance on a unpredictable liability? When I was working on the computer staff I had a seizure and the union gave me time off. That gave the business time to do research on epilepsy. When I came back, there were restrictions in place for tasks I could or could not do any longer. After while, they had no interest in my services because they made a decision I was a risk not to deal with. It is important that your job is aware of your health. As far as your meds, keep a log of dates, times and length of seizures. It gives your doctor something to work with to make adjustments to your meds so you will feel better.
