Working With Epilepsy.
Working with epilepsy sometimes can be hard. Do you think if there were accommodations for individuals with disorders or just epilepsy, would that be helpful in accomodating you needs? Working from home, more online work, shorter hours, or can you think of anything that would be useful for accomodating your needs that would help you keep working?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, with all due respect to your statement, I have had epilepsy for 63 years and to this day i have yet to see the government attempt to show any support for those with disabilities. Besides, you can't tell a business what is best for others (people with epilepsy) if it effects their bottom line...the almighty dollar.
I have been working from home for many years. A suggestion I can give you if you would like to work for the government look at USAjobs.gov as they do have remote jobs listed. I go to that website frequently to view the federal project updates.
Another option is to look at Flexjobs.com website as they are one of the best websites I have found for work at home jobs because the jobs are always updated and they are always legal. I wish you well.
When it comes to working, the only accommodation I would need is transportation to and from work. It is difficult for people who live in Rural areas. When it comes to finding work we have to look and travel farther distances for work.
It’s easier finding transportation in the big cities. There are different ways of getting around. City and county buses, Uber, Lyft, taxis, and possible Handicapped transportation.
Your best bet is to work from home. Corporations and businesses and state are not very supportive in giving reasonable accommodations because they will not go out of their budget to do so. And there is the principle that businesses will always consider someone with epilepsy a high-risk employee. Therefore, we don't get hired.
Thank you for your feedback, I am trying to do my researcher myself and others to make our life easier. I do believe doctors do their best in giving the top medicines and options to give us the best outcomes to give us control, but outside of that.. it is another realm to help us with living, transportation, work, etc. There is not much in the needs of this.. and social workers do have their hands full!! Trust me I gave them an earful the other day.. and I am not a rude person.. I apologized for it as well.. but with all the other mental health issues going on, they are overloaded. Lastly, I am trying to take matters in my own hands.. again thank you for your feedback! ☺️
