When Seeking A Second Opinion?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Sydney, AU

I was wondering when you seek a second or third opinion from a doctor do you tell ,share include all your diagnosis from previous doctors, neurologist .
Should that information be included?
would those previous diagnosis or medical opinions affect the opinion of the new doctor your seeing?
That's what my concern is really is that they will just agree with previous diagnosis.

Tell your doctor about you, what you are experiencing. You want a new opinion. No he said, she said.

I had a problem right now, the nurse is a sweetheart, nurse practitioner is overloaded w/ patients. , the Dr talks to me every 6 months. I have problems getting my seizure medication on time. The nurse Practioner says it’s my fault for not calling early enough! I tell her I request it and they are not receiving it. I now call and text for my medication.

I called my Epileptologist in MD says he could work for me in California ! I am ready too!

yes, all records will transfer from dr note to drs note. remember, we are talking about you. i had thousands (lost track at 150) and my records are still there. now getting a 2nd or 3rd or 15th drs opition is easy is pie or tough as nails... cause you really dont know the dr until the appt. good thing is you may have many drs at one time. i have my local dr to refill my meds, a dietitian dr (for keto and vitamins), a gut dr (celaic disease), and a neuro/epilepto drs (epilepsy). i also have tharepist because of my brain surgery. thay will come together to find the right combo for me.
remember, if you dont like that dr or you are not inproving or you just want some input on something ... get another option.

Depends on what you are getting a second opinion for. For example, is it a medication change? Or another opinion on having surgery to reduce your seizures? As far as a previous diagnosis, you want to move forward not backwards. When i used to get another suggestion from other doctors, i always tell them how my health is and how i am feeling right now, not the past. At least that is what doctors have told me. You want to find out if a change is available to help you feel better.

The 2 doctors are in the same practice/office. I have been told they "won't treat each others'" patients 😕
