I know the tests said my memory was poor. When given directions, I did not carry out the task well or consistently. The inability to do so the Doctor felt would getting and keeping a job difficult.

I Have Short Memory Like All Of You, I Say The Best Thing For You To Do Is Carry You A Notebook & Pen & Write Things For You To Remember So You Don't Forget, & When You Have Notes Into Your Next Appointment.

Francis,

I did not subtract because I did not know how to add. I could not divide because I could not multiply. Eventually my parents found records that said 2 times 2 is 4, 2 times 2 is ___. All the way to the 12s tables! To this day I remember the jungle at the end of the record about 3s.

I was taken out of school in 6th grade and given a tutor. I was overdosed on something. It has been a long time and had taken so many different meds. I could not concentrate more than 15 minutes, so would not get homework from school done.

The schools from 5th to 12th grade first put me in the Smart group, then the Dumb Group. I got very stressed out when I had to do any math. Long division was the worst! If it was 1 number into 2 or 3 numbers, I might be able to do it. Other than that, I lost track of what column was what!

When I had to do math of any kind, I got so stressed could not do English, History, Science etc. I took Photography and Stagecraft to get credits to get into college. Went to a very small High School, got an excellent education. First got an AA in liberal Arts. I tried to become a Teacher at Western CT State, but they did not give me a degree. There were a lot of men avoiding the Draft back then. They said because of my Epilepsy, would not get a job teaching. Did not get a degree in Special Education because that required Statistics. Eventually got a BA at UConn in Human Services.

It was very hard to make and keep friends moving from group to group.

I had a Guidance Counselor in High School who told me I would not graduate from there, not get a job, and never Graduate from College! I did them all. I was not going to be an accountant. UConn did not make me take math either.

Sometimes the drugs they give people with epilepsy can cause memory problems. Try asking your doctor about that.

I should read more books, but get the NY Times and other resources online, so I try to understand some things. For 17 years I read to children in Head Start, ages 3-5. It was a lot of fun. The Children's Librarian was helpful. I found all kinds of books and songs we all enjoyed, Years later I ran into one of the students. She was in High School and told me about her College Plans! I was not a teacher, but I made an impression. We had a great time!
