Hi πŸ‘‹ I'm Eve , I'm 52 and I've just been diagnosed with an x-ray with Osteoarthritis. I was always careful with bone density scans on Tegretol . I've developed toxicity in around 2016. I was told it was normal wear and tear and my blood test for inflammation had come back clear. I insisted on further investigation on my… read more

Regardless of the type, epilepsy meds drain a lot of folate, vitamin Bs and D. Make sure you are refilling your tank…. Absorption is a problem for me too. So you may need more than the average Joe.

Drug side effects may be the cause, but I read stuff on twitter and there is research coming out that OA may be related to metabolism diseases, like insulin resistance, diabetes, too much glucose, and stuff like that. Also, I recently found this article about boron being important in building bone. I have smouldering multiple myeloma, a bone cancer, OA, and osteoporosis, so I have started taking boron. According to the article, you can take 1- 13 mg of boron. I have started with 3 mg. We'll see how it goes.

I have only been taking zonisamide for less than 2 yrs so the seizure drug probably is not the cause. A few yrs ago around 60yo, I got hyaluronic acid injections in my knees. They worked wonders as long as I stay active and maintain the muscles around my joints I am good. I need to ask my dr if it is allowed in the big toe. That is my current source of OA pain.
