Epilepsy And Dementia
I've had epilepsy all my life. About 20 years ago I had temporal lobectomy surgery. The past few years seizures are out of control again and it's started affecting my memory worse. They did some tests and I was diagnosed with dementia. I asked what kind of dementia and all they say is it's caused from your surgery. Has anyone had to deal with this? Hopefully not, but I'm just scared and confused.
At least I see other people with hand shaking issues. I've had it since I had surgery and for a while thought it was just me.
Hopefully this won't happen to you. Prayers π
Not quite Alzheimer's is the progressive disease, hippocampus sclerosis is progressive in a sense but its a lot slower over many years sometimes it may just not get any worse and it only effects one area. Dementia is basically just a umbrella term to say " hey we think you may have dementia" but what there really saying is something is wrong we just don't know what it is. Note there are many other conditions as the brain is very complex.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Let's just say with MTS the Temprol lobe and the brain can be prone to shrinking. They normally monitor it with mri every few years. The brain would have to shrink at certain amount before they suspect it may happen.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Dementia and TLE can have similarities especially if the TLE is related to hippocampal sclerosis (MTS). I won't get into how the process works because it's not great...
