What Do Y'all Do About Transportation When You Can't Drive?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Houston, TX

I live alone in a huge city with terrible public transportation (Houston), and I'm not allowed to drive until Christmas. This is seriously impacting my ability to work. Any suggestions?

Bike?

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. Houston is a very spread out city, so Uber gets expensive, and biking isn't always practical. Plus , I have shoulder injuries and can't really bike right now. I'm a freelance musician/band director/private lesson teacher. I can teach some lessons online, but students are pretty sick of Zoom these days. I was hoping there would be some great non-profit that provided free or low-cost rides to disabled folks to places other than medical appointments. I can get to some of my jobs using a combination of public transportation and Uber, and my Mom is helping out a lot, but this is a PAIN.

Yes, but it’s getting to be very expensive!

Yes might look into the transportation in your area, they may have info on your disability and situation, and if do you may get a discount, my opinion

Public transportation is the only thing that I can rely on. I will never be able to drive. My life sucks. I stay at home 90% of the time. I go to the supermarket, gym, appointments, and take walks around the neighborhood. Everywhere I go to is on the bus. Most of my shopping is online. Everything is so far away from my house. Buses only run until 10 and start at six on some routes. Other buses start later and end early. Trying to get a job and not having a car out here is hard unless you live on the bus line and most of the time you have to take multiple buses to get where you are going and you can wait for an hour for the next bus to come.
