Does Anyone Else Have Trouble Getting Your Prescriptions Filled For You Seizure Meds Because Of The Meds Being "rare"?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Frankfort, KY

My neurologist has me on Briviact as my primary medication, no generic of course. I call every month to refill and they always have to order... "We'll have it in 1-3 days." This month I called a week early. They still don't have it, but they will get it in tomorrow or the next day. I'm picking up 5 days worth tonight because I'm running out soon. I hate to go through another change of meds, but I think that's what I'll have to do. 😕

never had an issue getting my meds, my insurance requires that I use the generic brand of any medicine.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, I had same situation with my lacosamide (generic Vimpat), also a controlled substance, level 5. I can't call in ahead. People here suggested telling them that I will be refilling it in a week, and request that they go ahead and order now so it will be onhand. I talked to the pharmacist, explained I didn't want to bother her staff with multiple calls looking for it, and would telling them work before I called in the refill. She said YES. That it doesn't matter what their computer says, or what my insurance says, still has to go thru federal controlled drug database, so that's why no early refills and why there's always a delay. I was so ecstatic to get the info that I gave them a $20 gift card and thank you note.

I tried it this last month, and it worked!! I went there in-person, told pharmacist I need this in a week, please order now. Then when I called in refill on due date, it was ready later that day.

You might also try mailorder. Some people have had success with that. I don't want to trust my seizure meds to mailorder tho. Good luck to you!!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I am on the max dose of keppra but if I ever miss a dose I will have a seizure but you can always talk to your doctor about your meds and ik how doctors are kinda demanding about things but I learned you have to be kinda demanding about what you want to especially if you have a good feeling about something but I really hope you get your seizures under control!
