Stress is what triggers seizures... "period".
Remember... stress is a positive and negative thing.
I've had a seizure triggered from laughing uncontrollably.🫣
We don't need to be afraid of it though. Just aware of what our bodies can handle.
Take care.

Hi Julie! That is completely normal! Hormonal fluctuations can effect a woman's seizure threshold. Stress is definitely a trigger for seizures. I have been living with epilepsy for 30 years. I can tell you from experience, I have had an increase in auras tied to hormones. High stress levels, especially when that stress effects your sleep, will also have an impact on seizure activity. It is important that you protect yourself--get enough sleep (which I sometimes don't do 🤔). If you notice an increase in seizure activity/auras at a certain time of the month, discuss it with your neurologist and your gynecologist. There may be a way to balance things a little better with your cycle.

Hormonal and stress can trigger seizures. This is generic info , since I’m not a female. Hopefully other women can explain better.

My husband and I do not have children. We chose not to due to my health. I did have a seizure which we believe was caused by birth control medication. So we had to find an alternative. I ended up getting an IUD. It has worked out well. Sometimes with IUDs, your period can be shorter, lighter, or stop. That aspect has helped eliminate some of the hormone fluctuations and I think it has reduced that particular seizure trigger for me. Insurance has covered Mirena three times for me. The IUD is good for up to 5 years. I've never heard of a spit test. Maybe it is newer, and they think they can can get away without covering yet. As time goes on, that might change. Good luck!
