What Is The Most Effective/common Seizure Medication?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Bakersfield, CA

My husband is currently on lamotrigine and lacosamide and the longest he’s been seizure free is about 3 months. He’s tried Keppra and didn’t like the side effects. I’m just wondering if he should try something new.

Apparently Keppra is the most used med now but whether it's the most popular is another question.

I have been all medications. My best on zonegran . Sz free for a year. Xcopri 3 months! Tegretol lessens the effects the best.! Every patient is different.

Levetiracetam 750 mg has been my lifesaver, I take 2 everyday at 6 p.m. and I’ve been seizure free for almost 3 years now!

Tegretol was the first seizure medication I was placed on, when I was 10 years old

Dr's put me on Keppra but had such extreme side affects. Reduced from 1000mg 2x daily to 750mg 2x daily. Then neurologist switched to Zonisamide ramp up, to 300mg 1x daily while downgrading Keppra slowly over a month time frame. Haven't had a seizure since January 9th.
