Does Anyone Have “Normal” Results Happen Often When Being Tested?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Every time I have a discussion with my PCP or Neuro about my seizures, they want to run a test. I’m fine with that but scheduling is stupid. It’s always a “week” later. So, When it’s time to do the test, the results never are conclusive. I can’t seem to catch a break on locating seizure activity.

My temp Neuro, says my seizures are too complicated and won’t take me in as a patient. I have words to say but it’s safer to say nothing.

I have had epilepsy since 1999 and my first seizures recorded on the EEG was LAST week. I needed to be off my meds for 4 days, sleep deprived, and I got to drink a whiskey! No kidding. God bless the doctors at the Mayo Clinic who listened to me and what my triggers were and set me up for success. Find a level 4 epilepsy center at a hospital and make sure they are willing to listen to you.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , My seizures aren’t as frequent probably as yours are & in years past I think the in office EEGs were normal & then when I began seeing my current Neurologist in November 2019 she had me do a 5 day in hospital video EEG & since my seizures aren’t as frequent or severe, I didn’t have any seizures during that but the Neurologist said that while I slept the EEG showed mostly Focalized seizure activity but some Generalized seizure activity. So at least it showed something. Most but not all of my seizures occur in my sleep. I’ve done 2 at home EEGs & I didn’t have any seizures during those & the last EEG of those at home & was done in late January 2024 but I didn’t have any seizures but you’d know after I got it off, a week later, on February 2nd, 2024, I had a different type of seizure that was different for me cause I was awake & aware of what was happening & how was starting to feel & things I was doing & I’m not usually that alert during a seizure. I was really tired & was talking to my Mom & began to feel weird, etc. Maybe the Epilepsy Foundation or something could help you find another Neurologist. Maybe you could stop taking your meds sooner than others usually do before an EEG. I hope things get better & worked out for you. 🤗💜🙏🤗 Your friend in Austin, Becky

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , your Dr.’s would be smart getting their information, through an inpatient EEG at the hospital , for so many days.
