How Is Medicine Working For You, Do You Have Any Side Effects? I Seem To Have Everyone Of Them Especially Memory

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

How many medications have you tried? How many are you taking? I have literally tried them all and I have a VNS. The 2 I’m currently taking are no longer working and the other ones never did. Do you do anything other than medication that seems to help

We are all guaranteed to have memory struggles between both are Epilepsy and medication’s .

The many other side effect from the medications are different for all of us. What side effect you’re experiencing another person on the same medication may experience something different or not experience the same side effects as you. At the same time they will experience possible experience, similar side effects to what you’re experiencing.

I have been on many different medicines. I had temperature seizures as a child and then I got them back. They have since found that the medicines don't help us. So to answer your question, I have used most of the medications at one time or another. When I went in for surgery I had six medicines and the VNS, and the seizures were still happening at least once a month. For me, they finally did the brain surgery, and the seizures were controlled. The VNS was removed, and all but one of the medicines was removed. This is now year 10, and they are also reducing that medicine. I am happy to answer any questions you have. I learned to warn people to be careful with the Vimpat medicine. The last side-effect is it can remove your nails. That does not stop till the medicine is stopped. That is one of the previous medicines they tried me on, and second, they took me off. Finally, the nails are growing back now! Be careful and read the side effects. I graduated with my Bachelor's degree post-surgery and am going on for my Masters this fall. Breaking all expectations!! That has become my theme.

It's dif per person, I don't have the mem i use to, but taking into consideration what is the cause of it, my condition of epilepsy, and the meds, age, test, seizures I have had, I think that has to do with my mem as it is, I'd say bout 1 on the 3 scale being the best, but I am not complaining about it either, not after 51 and half years of having them. my current condition is more stable than before and and I am ok with that and so is my doc.my opinion here , been on 4 meds, Dilantin and phenobarbital from 1971 to about 1992 then from 1992 to now depakote and levetiracetam, they have a few small side effects but nothing I'm not used to, hang in there and try and stay pos.
