Have You Heard Of Teeth Grinding With Your Seizures?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was told it was happening to me in the small one I had, but my wife doesn't think it's because of the seizure, I tried to explain it , but she doesn't believe it ,I don't recall of this happening, but once in a while I'm guessing, but then again how do you know what is happening with you going through a seizure and unconscious? Just curious, what do you think of this?

Yes and if it’s not grinding teeth, it’s the biting on the tongue

Teeth grinding does happen during sezuires especially at night it's a good idea to get a mouth guard made by your dentist they make a mold out of your teeth that way it will hold in place you won't have the problem of it falling out I've messed up my teeth broken them from grinding them severely mouth guards made specifically for you make a big difference

I got a mouth guard from a dentist not a local store.
I did try some from a store but they didn't stay In your mouth.
Of course, insurance didn't cover any portion of the cost of guards made by physicians due to result of a medical disorder...

Yes, a seizure disorder can cause a person to grit, or grind their teeth. I would buy a drug store teeth guard to sleep with, because the grinding can really damage your teeth. Your wife may not be able to tell if you’re gritting teeth, and not grinding.

Ugh - I just came home from the dentist friends…. I got the hard truth about teeth grinding during nocturnal seizures. It HAPPENS Dave even the small ones.
I wear a mouth guard made from the dentist and have wore through it from Clinching!
So now I get to have another one.
My teeth are flattened. One more thing flattened LOL
