Does Anyone Else Refuse To Go To The Hospital If They Have A Grand-Mal Seizure Or Reminents Of A Grand-Mal Seizure (such As A Migraine)?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Yesterday, I had a Grand-Mal Seizure, which resulted in a migraine that wouldn't respond to Advil or Tylenol Extra Strength. I went to the emergency room (something I vowed to never do again due to how I'm usually treated when I go; I have Medical Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to an incident in 2021, when I went to this hospital for seizures).

I explained why I was there and what I took, yet they gave me Tylenol anyways! I already took Tylenol; wouldn't that damage the liver?!?! They… read more

I avoid the hospital unless absolutely necessary. Healthcare and good doctors, especially neurologists are in short supply everywhere. I had to get a different neurologist 2tines, third time was a charm as I am finally on the right medication now and seizure free for almost a year now.

Except after my first one, I have not gone to a hospital after my seizures. I have always had a good support crew, husband, son, and cat, that I am okay,

I'm still waiting to have a grand mal (Generalized tonic–clonic) seizure. After the brain surgery in 2017 where thry removed 98% of 3 Neuroepithelial cysts I was having only petit mal (Absence) seizures. Then in late 2018 they put me the hospital for tests without any of the meds I was on. For 3 short days I had so many grand mal (Generalized tonic–clonic) seizure they had to put me back on my meds but at a lower level now.. I have not had any .grand mal (Generalized tonic–clonic) seizure since then, only the occasional petit (Absence) seizures and counting around 38 a year ever since. Most seizures were multiple seizures within a stressful month, lasting under 2-3 minutes.

I don't go to the hospital after having a seizure. I was told that there isn't a whole lot they can do if I am not having one at the moment or it hasn't lasted longer than 5 minutes or constant back to back episodes. I will say that the ER physician was a considerate and caring one (unlike some of the ones now that try to push you out the door). They can give me some meds and make sure I am coherent and everything, but that's about it.
