I was having them during my menstrual cycle. They didn't start then though. Mine started when I was a witness to a traumatic event. After a MRI and ECG, it was found that I had dead tissue in my left front temporal lobe.
The removal of that piece of my brain stopped the clusters of seizures, but seizures then began starting from the right temporal lobe.
I am now fitted with a VNS implant, because surgery was unable to change it. The VNS has become helpful. Because of this, my carer no longer lives with me, so my seizures are unable to be monitored.

For most epileptics high levels of either estrogen or testosterone since used/needed by brain. The rise & fall monthly may regularly cause mood swings but if epileptic- seizures. Back in 1988 saw Dr. Herzoag a leader in this who confirmed my high levels. I asked why not try to reduce them? "Estrogen is very important to a woman's body not to be messed with" So true in many ways, like bone production, clarity of mind, emotions etc. Bone density tests age 68 like that of a women's 20 years younger. Research since article here has proven the brain can make it's own hormones too. As far as menopause stopping all just wait & see for self. Complicated how or why hormones used by brain for women or men.
