I have recently been weaned off Zonisamide due to side effects. The Zonisamide is not going to be replaced by another AED. I am on phenobarbital and LamotragineER. I am just a little bit nervous about not having another medication added back to the mix. How many meds are you on and do you have problems when one of the medications is stopped? My seizures are well controlled, one every 2-3 years, but the last 2 were only 6 months apart. I realize I have nothing to complain about, but I am… read more

Hi
I'm on 2 different kinds :
Mysoline and tegratol. I have been on the same ones for 40 years with no issues and have only had 3 seizures since being on them.

It's understandable to be nervous to a change to a problem of question. I understand this because I been on hundreds of taken off hundreds of medications, that's including experimental medication at highest MG able to take for a person of my size and cause no damage. I can tell you I had no severe problems at any time. I have had known side effects but nothing surprising. Currently I take 3 medications for epilepsy and 1 for sleep apnea. The 3 I take for currently are Onfi, Lamictal, and Oxytellar. Don't be worried there may be multiple changes in order to get the best assembling of meds for best results. I find it really interesting that there are so many medications available for treating Epilepsy. Combing some of them for maximum effectiveness is a recipe for doctors and pharmacists only.
Finding yourself so dependent on a particular recipe, that's then changed is worrisome business. Find ways to manage anxiety and keep track of symptoms you think you might have because of a medicine change.
