Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Welcome! I encourage you to go to www.epilepsy.com & look up your local “Epilepsy Foundation Oklahoma”. For some reason it doesn’t look like they have their own website but on this page you’ll find their contact info & info about their support groups & they have a Facebook page called “Epilepsy Foundation Oklahoma”. I don’t know if you’ve tried having a disability attorney help you get disability, but if not, I strongly suggest that. You can contact your local Epilepsy Foundation & let them know you’re trying to apply for disability & ask if they could recommend a disability attorney in your area. My local Epilepsy Foundation had me contact a local law firm & the disability attorney helped me & yes it took 2 to 2 & 1/2 years but I finally got approved. Each case is different & some people might get approved sooner than others. If you don’t already, I suggest you keep track of when you have a seizure & when you go to see a doctor & what you saw them for & what doctor & this will help your attorney get your records for your case. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

You may want to talk to a Disability Firm about both issues. Maybe even see if the Epilepsy Foundation has any advice.

I live with my parents and I’m over 40 years old. Have you tried getting Medicare?

I understand this is an extremely difficult situation. When epilepsy makes working impossible but disability benefits are unavailable, it can feel hopeless. However, there may still be support options to explore. Some options to consider:

- Reach out to epilepsy organizations for guidance on alternative assistance programs or appeals for disability benefits. They may have resources to help.

- If you qualify for limited income-based programs like Medicaid despite being denied disability, take advantage of what help is available.

- Lean on your support system as you continue pursuing disability benefits. Keep close records and have doctors clearly document limitations. Consider legal help speeding up appeals.

- Explore whether any local nonprofits can assist those unable to work due to medical conditions. Some have small grants for basic needs.

I wish you the very best moving forward. With perseverance and support, a solution may emerge.
