Is Epilepsy Considered Grievous And Irremediable?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
St. John's, NL

I'm wondering since I submitted an application for Physician-Assisted Suicide due to my seizures (I have Grand-Mal Seizures, Simple-Partial Seizures, and Complex-Partial Seizures). My body is medication-resistant. Anti-seizure medications do not really work for me. Furthermore, surgery is not an option, according to my neurologist.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Really??? Hmmm Thats really od normally in most countries mantal health is alot easier to get DSP for the epilepsy. Probably check in detail what the current DSP rules are and if there are any ways you can get it with your curren't condition. Randy is right talk to you Dr about other options like VNS DBS or RNS or even surgery. These are all Refractory Epilepsy treatments.

You have what’s called Refractory Epilepsy ( resistance to the medication ) .if your Dr. doesn’t think you’re a Candidate for surgery, thenYou may want to ask about the VNS, DBS and RNS alternative treatments..

Mallory I’ve been through so many drugs myself over the years. Everyone in this group is here to support you especially when you need someone to talk to when you feel the most vulnerable of hopeless. Please reach out to one of us if you need to speak to somebody that will listen to you that also deals with the same symptoms that you do believe me it is hard. I hate it with a passion, but I have no choice, but to go through it each and every day this is not a disease I would wish on anyone not my worst enemy either so like I said, please run reach out to one of us when you need someone to talk to any of us will listen to you, and is more of willing to listen to what you might have to say. But most of all please try to keep a smile on your face. You know if you are having a bad day hang in there..

Mallory please look into the rns device it’s way better to control your seizures. I want to have it done for myself. Due to the fact I’ve gone through a lot of different meds over the years.
