Ketogenic Diet, Does Anyone Follow This Treatment For Seizures, Or Even Just Try Low Glycemic Diets For Seizure Control?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Roanoke, VA

I'm looking for advice on the ketogenic diet or low glycemic diets. Has any tried these and had it help seizure control? Too much sugar is a trigger for me, so I was wondering if it might help to be more strict with diet.
Thanks

I just started the Modified Atkins Diet one week ago. I'm in the early stages of it. I'm hopping it helps.

EPILEPSY/ANEURYSM

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Northern Ireland

Trying to get some feedback from others... I visited the Neuro-Radiographer recently and got the results of my MRI/MRA... They found I have an aneurysm just above the right eye in the skull... This means another test to find out the size of the aneurysm and depending on the size, then treatment from there. In the meantime I'm being sent back to the Epilepsy Clinic for further investigation of my seizures... Does anyone else have an aneurysm or similar?

Does Anyone Ever Feel Like When They Calm Down It Is Hard To Become That Way And Perhaps It May Be Due To Stress?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fort Myers, FL

When I have been way too stressed out I find it very hard to calm down. I almost feel weary of falling asleep and I am not sure if i have had seizures or if it is exhaustion because I never get a break or even enough sleep. Sometimes I feel like i am falling into lala land and very upset but i am not sure if it is emotional and wishing i had a second to myself and exhaustion. Could it be because I am tired and just need a break or can it be because I had a seizure? I have allways had trouble… read more

Seizures And Other People

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

Does anyone have seizures and just want to be quiet for a few days afterwards. The reason I ask is I have had a bad seizure at the weekend and my in-laws have been down today yet my father-in-law wants to be all jokey and they wonder why I am quiet.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Ye, occasionally, I try to keep it at a medium balance, but ye sometimes I prefer to be by myself and am ok with, no offense to anyone, but my opinion

Antihistamines

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

This has been discussed in other areas but I want to know peoples thoughts. A few months ago I suffered from vertigo labyrinthitis. Basically I was having dizzy spells and the doctor said I had an inner ear infection. He prescribed me some antihistamine tablets. I asked if they would effect my other epilepsy medication and he said they actually might help reduce the number of seizures I have. I usually have one or two seizures a month but since taking the tablets I haven't had a seizure for two… read more

Hi Does Anyone Else Suffer Anxiety As A Result Of Having To Deal With Epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Liverpool, UK

If so, how do you cope and what kind of anxious syptoms to you face? I’ve been fit free for years (so grateful) but occasionally I’m reminded of my experiences and I freak out.

Also is there such symptoms of anxiety that can mimic seizures? E.g In anxious scenarios my right hand goes numb . My fits woukd start with my right hand going dead and stiff (tonic phase starting up) so I guess whenever this happens I really panic. A neuro said I was suffering accute anxiety years ago and suggested I… read more

Difficulty Sleeping, Any Medications Or OTC Pills Taken

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Katy, TX

My neurologist told me that I could have difficulty sleeping due to my medications and my overall condition. As I’m sure you all know, lack of a good night’s sleep will trigger seizures the next day.

I’m wondering if any of you have difficulty sleeping and if so what prescription meds or Over the Counter pills you take for this?

Thanks!

Guy

At What Point Do You Know Its Time To Switch Doctors? I

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Colorado Springs, CO

My doctor paased me on to her PA and I have not seen her again. My husband thinks that was not very professional. Maybe one time, but not each visit. He thinks i should get a neurologist that will see me each visit.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member
