Does Anyones Eyes Hurt After Having A Seizure?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Salt Lake City, UT

I can always tell when I have a seizure because it feels like I was rubbing my eyes on the carpet. It normally feels like this all day. Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know why this happens?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I can tell I've had a nocturnal seizure in part because my eyes feel grainy. I think they probably dry out from being open, even though I don't recall the episode.

If like me you take a lot of tablets throughout the day and you sometimes forget a good app to use is called Medisafe. Once you have listed your tablets it will remind you when to take them.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

All you have to do is buy a pill box or set mobile alarm to go off at set time an if you have your mobile with you every where you will not forget

Do you feel uncomfortable embarrassed strange. Do people seem to look at you strange while talking. Do you have trouble with eye contact. Feel stupid when walking away after a conversation with someone

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I don’t think my epilepsy has ever prevented me from talking. I will talk to a wall. That being said as I age I have noticed some problems maintaining conversations due to short attention span and… read more

Has Anyone Had Brain Surgery To Correct Their Seizures? Im Scared And Would Love To Hear Your Stories And Get Any Advice I Can

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Sydney, AU

I've got complex partial seizures with identified abnormality in my temporal lobe. Seizures are focal so my neurologist said surgery is an option I should consider, but I'm pretty scared and not sure it is worth it. My seizures aren't very bad and I could still lead a mostly-normal life but I plan to become a doctor and with sleep deprivation being a major trigger for me it may prevent me from pursuing my desire to work in a hospital (which means long hours). Im not sure about the process of… read more

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Did you ever have the surgery? I had surgery. I had part of the left temporal lobe removed, and I am now ten years seizure-free. I was not on here when you asked that question. I just saw your… read more

Midazolam

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Adelaide, AU

I've just explored the site a little more. I came across the epilepsy association medication list and found diazepam rectal gel listed but no intranasal midazolam?? I realise the majority of people here aren't Australians, so perhaps it's something not used often overseas
I still occasionally have a very large grand mal that requires medication to bring me around, but I was put onto using intranasal midazolam years ago
Prior to the midazolam all my partner could use during a large grand mal… read more

How Does One Know The Difference Between An Anxiety Attack And A Partial Seizure?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Melbourne, AU

After my VEEG, the specialist has advised me to see a psychologist as I'm apparently not having as many seizures as we thought. He believes they are anxiety related. However my seizures feel just the same? Today, I've had an anxiety attack/seizure practically all day and worrying about something personal.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I have stress and anxiety seizures which fall under Non-Epileptic seizures because it's not due to the brain misfiring. My neurologist also recommended me go to a psychologist but specifically a… read more
