I Don't Feel Like I'm The Clever Person I Used To Be. Please Can Anybody Give Me Any Advice? Has Anybody Else Experienced This?

Back when I was in school, I was quite clever, I didn't have a problem with big words, I used to remember topics easily and soaked up information like a sponge. Now, I feel stupid. For example, my boyfriend is very knowledgeable (a bit of a know it all ;)), he's always explaining things to me and teaching me abut new, interesting things, but straight after I completely forget all the detail :( and no matter how many times he explains it to me I just can't relay it back to him or anybody else. I have similar symptoms as most of you. I do not have a recollection of many memories from previous years as my friends would have. I have issues with containing information. General knowledge history, geography that I used to know is mostly gone. I often feel just plain stupid.

The meds and seizures definitely impact memory and processing. I have two graduate degrees and now on good days my brain is Swiss cheese. On bad days it's scrambled eggs. It's very tough. I'm still hopeful that it'll get better. Most of the literature says that it'll get better and that if it doesn't or is impacting your life too much you should switch meds. Sorry that you're dealing with this also. Good luck, and be sure to keep your MD informed re the status of the side effects so that they can be assessed and addressed. Hugs.

I am going through the exact same thing. I am in a pretty highly educated position and need to always think on my feet and provide analysis of certain information multi-task. But the last few years i have really noticed a slow down in my brain function. I am just not as sharp as I used to be. Just last week I needed to update something at work and saw a meeting on my calendar that occurred earlier in the week. I had no recollection of the meeting ever happening but sure enough I found notes, in my handwriting from the meeting. I am still able to function and perform my job duties but it has gotten harder and I too fear losing that edge to keep a position at or above my current level. Would love to talk more about this...

My Doctor prescribed ARICEPT. GENERIC DONEPEZIL. It has helped me immensely with my memory. Good luck.

I forgot a lot too bec to of my medication I have a lot of memory lost & I totally I understand what your going thru . I feel dumb around my friends too because I always forget what I'm going to say or I just space out & I can't snap out of it either so it sucks. You should try writing it all down on a paper so you won't forget
