Sensitive

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have found lately that after a seizure I am so much more sensitive to criticism and to well basically anything emotionally draining.
Am I the only one?
I'm hoping this is normal!

I'm very sensitive after seizure too. If you aren't careful, I can start sobbing uncontrollably or even start screaming. Then when I snap out of that I get very stubborn. I've come to the conclusion that it is part of my postictal state and I have no control over it whatsoever.

It's very normal I'm the same way. I'm actually also just sensitive to that stuff anyways because any stress causes triggures so I don't like to hear any complaining or negativity

I definitely understand what you are saying PetaNeil Yes it is normal. I feel like the same. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be around family I was told it’s my fault and yes criticism. When something happens to me I try not to tell anyone except really close friends that actually care. I was also told I am hated because I have epilepsy. It makes me feel sad

Very normal. Due to an overload of neurotransmitters. Unfortunately it is something we have to deal with but recognize that it is not the real us

Nobody has to apologize for that ever. When a seizure occurs neurotransmitters fire incorrectly as a defense mechanism. It's not you after a seizure, It's your brain trying to save you.
