Seizure Video

I had my recent bad seizure in my local supermarket. I don't remember anything until coming round in the back of an ambulance covered in blood. The supermarket has it captured on security camera but my wife doesn't want me to see it. I am prepared to watch it and it could come in useful to send to the benefits agency to prove my illness. What should I do?

I think the video can really help you should you need proof of your seizures. If your episodes are pretty long and severe, you may not want to watch it.

I would want a copy to at least show my doctors or for disability. Whether or not to view it yourself is up to you. If you think you can handle watching it and want to, then do so. If you are unsure, then you at least have evidence on hand to keep on file, and you can always watch at a later time if you wish to do so.

Hi, I understand your situation, exactly the same happened to me and I used it to show my neurologist. I didn't need to use it for ppi benefits because I had 9 repetitive seizures in front of them so I had full ppi care and motability and the occupational therapist told me they would make an extension of a bedroom and bathroom downstairs for me and I didn't even ask for anything! Didn't have to pay a penny! It shows that many people don't understand epilepsy much, partly because we don't look ill or disabled so you are less likely to get benefits compared to someone who is visually disabled. It's the same problem with having a blue badge for parking, why is the blue badge sign a wheelchair? It suggests you have to be using a wheelchair to park there.
Have you seen an occupational therapist? Perhaps that would help.

Sometimes people don't like watching themselves have a seizure. They may be embarrassed enough to have a seizure at any time, and it may scare them see it happening. If it will be helpful to prove epilepsy is part of Your life then use it for that purpose, then ask if Your neurologist would like to see it. Would it be helpful for Your Dr.?

When I had my electronic telemetry at the RVI I was asked if I wanted to see the footage. Both Dr Lai and the nurses advised me not to. Dr Lai said that if I was going to watch it to bring someone with me because 100% of his patients had got upset. I would say take a copy but it's not totally necessary for you to watch it. You're right though it could be good evidence for the DWP.
