Having More Seizures On Weekends After Work.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone find that they have more Episodes on the Weekends after the Work Week? I find that I can end up having Episodes all day Saturday, and then be Cranky or as we call it ( Epitesty) all day Sunday. Anyone else get like this?

Part of the cause of the problem may be not getting enough sleep during the week (after working), as well as the greater heat & humidity factors. I have found that taking extra electrolytes has helped here. I'm able to buy them in tablet form at a good vitamin store, & have less sugar than the Gatorade. I do work part-time providing home health care to people with special needs. I have to factor in the travel time (walking and using the buses) and the time needed to type up their care notes. I hope that this helps.

Debbieoaten, don't feel long winded about your observation. What you are experiencing about a difference in medicine happens to all of us. Your health service will always make the determination to keep your costs down. In this case, if they can keep your cost down by giving you a generic version of the drug from a different manufacture, by all means they will do it. I had experienced that same issue when i was taking Vimpat. I was taking this drug for about 5 years and after the second year, i received a generic version and i my seizures increased along with the side effects. And my neurologist didn't know it. When i had an appointment with her the next month, i brought in the generic Vimpat to ask a question. She was upset because i was suppose to receive the brand name. She worked it out with the pharmacy. But it took days after to get it cleared by the insurance and the FDA. Doesn't matter what the medicine is insurance will always suggest the generic version.

Candy, when you check out the vitamin supplement(s), make sure that there is Potassium and/ or Magnesium as part of the ingredients. Our muscles really need them. I've been taking a supplement called: Brain Formula. It's put out by a company @: LifePlus.com. It has a balance of the nutrients that the brain really loves... and needs. I don't get paid for mentioning this company or vitamin, I just know that it helps me to stay alert during the day and think more clearly. I take my seizure med 4X/ day, and will take the Brain formula with the first 3 dosages. The bottle contains enough to cover me for 2 months. Basically, it just costs a little bit over $1.00 per day. [[treatment:Melatonin:5526d0531fcaa353cc0029f5]] has helped me with getting a better quality sleep as well. And YES, the electrolytes really make a big difference! I pray that the Lord continues to keep you safe in the work that He has called you to do. Shalom. Maire'

I don't know but could it be that you are so focused on work and issues that come with it that it all brews up weekend comes and bang. I suppose it doesn't make sense because a lot of the time stress can cause them but what I'm going through now with confusion about epilepsy anything can happen

I'm on lamictal and keppra and find that where I get my tablets dispensed can have a big difference...apparently there is a slight difference in the tablets appearance/content, there can be a gap in the middle/inside that can make all the difference according to the company that makes them...I get mine from the pharmacy at where I work as its made by a different company, this has had a big difference on my seizures/absences...it sounds silly but consistently getting the tablets from the same place has affected me alot...I was surprised when my epilepsy nurse told me this and I have continued to follow this simple thing...sorry message is long winded but I hope it is getting my point across
