How Do People Live Independently When You Have Consistent Seizure Issues?
Ok is there a place that helps young adult live with health issues but can still make decision for themselves?
Get an IWatch. There are multiple apps that use the watch technology to track your pulse, heart rate and motion to detect seizure activity and can contact 911 along with your chosen emergency contacts. You can also look into a seizure dog. They are hard to qualify for placement and very expensive but the Chelsea Huchinson foundation along with a few others give out grants and things annually. So that's something else to look into.
Good morning, Positive. You are asking a very deep question. I lived in my parent's home on Long Island until after graduating from college in 1991. At that point I moved down to FL for a new job. I did continue to have seizures even while I was working in hospitals, Nursing homes & in patient homes (as an Occupational therapist). Basically I needed to cut back on my work time over the years. I did have 2 brain surgeries (in 2009 & 2010). I made a decision after being hospitalized on 8/5/1970 for seizures (the first time) that Epilepsy WOULD NOT STOP ME from achieving my life goals. The brain surgeries did help. PTL! I needed to make the choice to keep on going... despite Epilepsy. God has always been there in my life to protect me... despite the multiple times that I have fallen & hit my head & needed to go to the hospital/ ER. If you want to live independently, you will have to make sure that you have safety devices for your bed (to help protect you from falling). I do have an alarm system on the house. I can press one of the buttons to get emergency medical care when needed. I don't know what you are facing re: the type(s) & frequency of seizures, so I cannot make any choices for you... The best life rule to follow: Go to GOD first and ask Him for the wisdom that you need. His thoughts & plans for us are for good, not evil,.. to give us a positive hope & expectation. (Jer. 29:11). If you don't have that personal relationship with Jesus already in your life, start reading in the Gospel of John. Ask Him to give you the needed wisdom & discernment for every step that you are to take in life. Shalom. Peace. Maire'
P.S. I am now married for 2 years to a wonderful Christian man who does love me with God's love. He is an instrument that God is using in my life for my good. Yes, we do minister to each other based our individual needs. Shalom.
I would Start by checking with the Epilepsy Org ( Epilepsy Foundation in US or other orgs. In other countries ) near you. See if the know of any type of housing can help you keep your independence.
I think that is a individuals call my opinion, cause whether you live on your own or with they are going to happen, I think that is how I look at this question here,
Thank you ☺️
