So Is It True No Alcohol With Epilepsy?
I'm curious what the consensus is here
Its the medication really. I still drink here and there, not enough to get drunk but i dont reccoment it. I take 300mg BID Vimpat, 40mg BID Onfi, and 450mg trokendi pm. I take my meds at 10/10, ive only got a steadier schedule in the past few days, but i have a coke(coca cola) addiction and we were out yesterday so i drank a little bit if this alcohol someonr gave us and i was the only one who liked it. It was 5pm at that time because i went back to bed after 10am. I can have 1-10 seizures(auras) in a day, rarely above 6, but i didnt have any yesterday. So yeah its more the meds, thats what ive always been told, it can cause a reaction.
The Drs tells everyone , no to Alcohol . It is one of big triggers for Epilepsy.
I on occasions will have an alcohol beverage. But I don’t drink a lot of it for the fact of possibility having a seizure. After that I drink Virgin Drinks.
I also quit because regardless of what I did or didn't do and no matter how religiously I took my medication, as long as I was drinking I was having seizures. Now I've been five weeks sober and totally seizure-free.
Coincidence? I think not.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I don’t have any interest in drinking but team member @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member can give you some feedback on this cause he sometimes has a couple drinks but he says he also ends up paying the price by later having a headache & sometimes a seizure. So message him & he can tell you his experience with it but of course everyone may react differently. Just stay safe & be responsible if you do drink. Your friend in Texas, Becky
YES!!! I made my seizures come on by drinking alcohol, and a friend of mine did too.
