Is Anyone On Here Taking Lamotrigine?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is anyone on here taking lamotrigine? I’m up to 150mg twice a day at the moment which seemed control my seizures for a while, but I had several nocturnal seizures in the early hours of Wednesday morning which left me with a horrendous headache which lasted all day and unable to function. Didn’t sleep last night as I just can’t switch off. Tried to get some sleep today but not happening, which is leaving very tired and frightened. I wish this illness would go away….think I’m losing my mind.

Me too. I'm a massive insomniac. Dr put me on Lunesta and it helped massively. It helps not only fall asleep but stay asleep. Ambien only helps fall asleep. So I switched!

Hi Kathryn13
I’m getting there now, so far I haven’t had a seizure for 3 weeks so carry on that way.

SharronAshcroft, Are you taking anything new, have new stress or activity, or doing something differently in the last couple of weeks? Any allergies? I am on lamotrigine, which is the generic form of the brand name Lamictal (from the one that the company that first developed it). Generics can behave differently, depending on how how they are manufactured. Some meds stop working as well because our body builds up a tolerance. I am lucky that it still works for me. I hope all that helps, and that you have a safe and seizure free weekend…

Hi Sharron, I answered your question back on March 24 but after you added me to your team l felt I could add more.
I don't know how to attach links 🤔 but I found a very thorough article on the Mayo Clinic website. Google: MAYO CLINIC LAMOTRAGINE SIDE EFFECTS. Make sure you read the whole article.
I currently take 200 mg of LAMOTRAGINE AM &PM and experience minimal side effects. I hope you're no longer feeling like you're losing you mind Sharron. Please keep in touch about your journey.
