How Long Does It Take Your Tongue To Heal. (Or At Least Feel Better)

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Haven't really been able to eat since Thursday.
Had a seizure and bit my tongue. It looks like it has scalloped edges. Anyway it really hurts and I was wondering if anyone had any info on how long it takes to feel better.

Ouchie - yogurt, applesauce (Demon food), and really blended pot noodles are the best thigs to eat. Nothing you have to chew. And all the ice cream you can hold.

I’ve bitten my tongue 👅 during some seizures (sometimes even my right cheek), and for the tongue 😛 it’ll normally get better in 2-3 weeks

Mine takes about 1.5 weeks. Once it was about 3 weeks but I could put my teeth into the holes in my tongue. I am so sorry. I have always swished some salt water in my mouth.

It’s usually tender for the first 7-10 days but an antiseptic mouthwash really helped me. Unfortunately it’s happened so many times the area itself is permanently a wee tender. Just be sure to take care of yourself and stay on top of meds. I had a Temporal Lobectomy April 21st of this year and am currently over a 90% reduction in seizures but, this is what the side of my tongue looks like now. Sorry for the gross tongue picture.
