I was diagnosed with Epilepsy at age of 2. From then to present, I’ve been on too many medications to remember. I’ve also been on different combinations of meds and non have fully controlled my seizures..

I’ve had left temporal Lobe brain surgery done . I tried tried the VNS ( Vagus Nerve Stimulation ) in 2005 . It didn’t help well. August of 2023 I had the DBS ( Deep Brain Stimulation ) treatment done. I still have it and it’s working well. But I still have seizures now and then. Just not as many as I use to have, before the DBS.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , if you are going through the same experience as I , then you’re probably experiencing Refractory Epilepsy. The medication treatments are not full working. So you’re still having seizures.

But if you haven’t been on too many medications it’s still possible , for your Dr. to find the right medication(s) to work for you.

Best thing to do is discuss your Drs plans for you. Ask if you’re a candidate for alternative treatments, besides meds.

I’m on divalproex and carbamazepine (tegretol)
I’ve tried approx 8 different medications over the last 29 years.
My seizures are still not controlled.

I have been dealing with epilepsy for about 30yrs now and they have tried many medications. Usually I have had negative reactions. I got the VNS and it did not work. I recently (2 months ago) got the DBS and it is not working yet. At this time I am on 2 meds and have 2 devices in my body, still having seizures. Not sure why my body refuses to respond well. As of this day they still don’t know the exact location of where my seizures are starting. I was sent to a hospital in California that claimed to have the ability to locate location in those who others could not find the location, and even they could not find the location where my seizures started. They see the seizure occurring but can’t locate the starting point. So I guess it just depends on us all individually. To this day, I am still the one they can claim, “we just don’t know where they start or what will work”. I need a cure or I probably will just pass away with epilepsy. 🤷🏽‍♀️
