Brand V Generic Topiramate
Does anyone know why Generic Topiramate tablets are smaller than the brand version even though it's the same dosage? I haven't had any issues or anything I was just wondering why this is. Currently I'm in the process of changing from Topamax to Apotex generic Topiramate.
Ask your pharmacist about it, they generally have answers for things like that
The reason i think is because everyone is different. For example, you can have two people with the same type of seizure, and both will take generic Topiramate. But the generic Topiramate may not be enough for the other person. When i was younger i was taking Topiramate because another patient took it, and my neurologist said it works for them. Turns out i was still having the same number of seizures. Then my neurologist suggested me taking the brand name Topamax and i had 1 less seizure for the next months. It may not be much for others, but it was a big change for me at the time.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Another phenobarb user!! Don't feel like there too many of us. I have had a lot of reactions to other AEDs and always went back to phenobarb.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I am a patient that cannot tolerate generic medication. I don't work well with medication in general but I am someone that performs better with the brand name and it has been proven. I was speaking with my epilepsy specialist yesterday and he even stated to me there are patients that do better on brand name medication than taking generic. I can only give you the reasoning for my own case and state the factors that have been discovered brand name drugs have been found to work at low doses for my care.
As to why a brand name medication works better for some better than generic
I can only answer how it works for my case. I suggest bringing the question to your doctor, as I am not a medical professional.
I just know if I wasn’t taking brand name Topamax it caused me to seize so after a little while dr had put me back on the brand name one
