Out Of The Two Devices The RNS And VNS With One Is More Reliable When It Comes To Controlling Seizures? I Want To Have The Procedure Done?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member
I used to have a VNS but I now have had an RNS for 4 or 5 years. The RNS has worked much better than the VNS for me. When I had the VNS we saw no improvements in my seizures. Any time the VNS turned on I could feel the vibration in my throat and it would make me cough and mess up my speech. I had another surgery getting the VNS taken back out. The RNS has controlled my seizures a little better, plus I can send the doctors seizure information everyday from home. So I’m much happier with the RNS than I was with the VNS. If you have any questions let me know.

I had the VNS, from what I've read it seems like the RNS would help more. Wishing you the best on which ever you decide to get. Have you asked your Dr. what he/she thinks?
Based on the information provided, the RNS device seems to be more reliable in controlling seizures compared to the VNS. The RNS is connected directly to the surface of the brain where the seizure focal point is identified. It delivers an electrical pulse within milliseconds when seizure activity is detected to prevent or Show Full Answer
