I've Asked This ❓ Before, But They Say You Shouldn't Do That Or This With The Condition We Have, But Say You Wanted To Try Something New,

I tried out cross country skiing once and didn't have a prob with, but what about if i wanted to try down hill skiing and see what it does, and was interested in doing that, what would prevent me from doing that, I know that I have a condition of epilepsy and what most of my triggers are, but what would be the prob with that? Or anything else that I would like to try out, I am ok with people's opinions on what is a preventative measure for me and my life with, but how do I know if I don't try… read more

None of my doctors have ever told me what I can and cannot do. My GP and my Neuro have both told me to continue to do whatever I was doing.

It's understandable to want to try new activities, even those that may seem risky with epilepsy. As the MyEpilepsyTeam members shared, some are able to enjoy roller coasters and other thrills if cleared by their doctor. However, downhill skiing does come with heightened risks that are important to consider. The main risks with downhill skiing are the speed and potential for falls and head injuries, which can trigger seizures. It would be wise to consult your neurologist first to see if any precautions could make downhill skiing acceptably safe for you. They may recommend trying gentler beginner slopes first while wearing a helmet and avoiding skiing alone. Listening to your body and knowing seizure triggers will also help determine what feels right for you.

Do what you like -put fears bout if seizure occurs on hold. Bout the only thing I wouldn't do is drive. Always keep in mind u know what to expect from your type of seizure to ease it. Many just while having fun but it passes-no restriction from still having fun.
