Anyone Have A Seizure From Colonoscopy Prep? I’m Very Nervous. I’m Not On Seizure Meds Because They Are Not Sure What Causes Mine.

Well were you on meds when you had the colonoscopy and what prep did they give you?

Oh, the GI doc did make me do the colonoscopies in the hospital, rather than the office, because of my epilepsy and the fact that it has not been fully controlled yet.

I had 2 colonoscopies this year. The first one I did have a seizure within 5 days, but the second one no seizure. No way to know if the first one caused a problem with by body and triggered that seizure.

It's understandable to feel nervous about having a seizure during colonoscopy prep. However, there is no evidence that the colonoscopy prep itself commonly triggers seizures in people with epilepsy. It's understandable to feel nervous about having a seizure during colonoscopy prep. However, there is no evidence that the colonoscopy prep itself commonly triggers seizures in people with epilepsy. Since you are not on seizure medication currently, be sure to have someone with you during the prep in case you do have a seizure. The prep does involve taking strong laxatives that can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. These changes can lower the seizure threshold in some people. So it's important to follow prep instructions carefully - drink plenty of clear fluids, get electrolytes, and have someone with you. Inform the gastroenterologist about your seizure history beforehand as well.
