Limb Jerks

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Last night I was on my phone and then like an electric shock my arm threw its self forward and sent my phone flying. I had quite a few jerks in my left arm and left leg. I didn't have that really strong aura feeling before or anything but felt a little spaced out I guess. Is that classed as an actual seizure? I get these clusters of random jerks a few times a week.

yes those myoclonic seizures are horrible and so debilitating. Leveteracitam helped alot with those for me and a regular meditation practice in the morning and at night when I have them the most.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I was getting these. If they turn out to Myoclonic jerks and you have tests done showing eeg activity coming from the front part of the brain then it would be seizure related myoclonic jerks. But if you don't have and activity in this area then the jerks are something else not seizures. They can even just be med side effects,

How can a jerk be considered a seizure? Maybe it all depends on the force of the jerk. Once in a while I get a leg jerk but nothing big like Lydia6. I know that is part of Epilepsy but not a seizure. I am under control and yet this happens once in a while but nothing major.

Yes, the sudden jerking movements you experienced in your arm and leg would be considered seizures. Specifically, they sound like myoclonic seizures based on the description of quick, sudden muscle jerks happening in clusters a few times a week. The feeling of being "spaced out" beforehand could have been an aura, which is a common warning sign before a seizure. Auras can cause sensory changes like dizziness or numbness. Tracking details about your seizures and any auras or warning signs can help identify seizure triggers and inform treatment.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Myoclonic jerks that are diagnosed as seizures are always genralised. So If you are having these and they are actual "myoclonic jerk seizures" then once the jerks start the seizure has started.
