Warning Symptoms

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Conroe, TX

Everyone has a different body and I'm sure different seizure warning signs but I wanted to ask what warning signs you might notice before you have one so I could compare it to mine.
Thanks
Michelle

Sometimes When I Wake Up I Have Short Term Memory Loss. I Think It Is When I Have Seizures In My Sleep. Anyone Else?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Greene, NY

Once I couldn't remember any of my 6 cats' names or the names of TV show hosts on shows that I watch every day. I could not remember what our bathroom looked like even though it had been remodeled 2 years ago and I use it many times each day. I could only picture it how it used to look. I could remember the details of how it used to look but I could not picture anything about the new bathroom. I knew it had been changed but not what it looked like as I lay in bed after I woke up

What Are People's Reactions If You Tell Them That You Have Epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Weston, MA

Hi, I'm trying to tease apart the elements surrounding the stigma in order to build a strategy for fighting it. While families and romantic partners have as many different reactions as there are people with epilepsy, I'm trying to figure out useful generalizations that might be made about reactions from friends and acquaintances. All comments are appreciated!

I rarely speak to anyone about epilepsy unless they are persons that need to be aware of my epilepsy. When I began looking for work the state department person I met, had a wonderful Zoom video… read more

Obamacare?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
California, CA

Just wondering about your experiences with health insurance since implementation of Obamacare. Has it helped you with coverage and costs? Is it easier to get insurance, subsidized insurance or Medicaid? Can you more reliably get and pay for your mess?

For me - I don't currently qualify for a subsidy, so I pay full price for the premiums. It isn't cheap (just under $700/mo just for myself), but without Obamacare I wouldn't even be able to get insurance because of the epilepsy. And while I pay a… read more

Childish Like Seizures? Anyone Else Experienced This? Sorry I Don't Know The Actual Name For Them

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Derbyshire

I know I have odd behaviour when there's seizure activity like biting my arms, trying to pull my nails off and being extremely clumsy. From what I've been told because I'm unaware when it happens. But my parents told me about one I have a lot, they said its like I'm regressing
For example, this is the most recent one I had, what they told me:

I ran downstairs (which I know not to do anyway) and said "Mummy mummy! Can we go to the park today? But can I do some colouring first please?" She… read more

Does Anyone Else Have Difficulty With Speaking? I Often Say A Different Word Than I Want To.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Kentwood, LA

I've been having difficulty speaking because the wrong words come out of my mouth. Even my family is getting tired of my mistakes. I say things wrong and it makes me upset, and then it gets worse until I'm babbling incoherently. Even my family is starting to roll their eyes and talk over me like I'm not there. This is devastating...I feel useless and forgotten.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

My times I struggle getting my words out. A lot of times I try to think ahead of what I want to say. Then there are many times where I may not have the chance to think it thru. That's usually when I… read more

Who Went To Vote Early Today Ang Got Affected By The Voting Machines Screen?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Laughlin, NV

I went to vote today and those special voter machines that they have was seizures hell. As soon as I started looking at it, I felt funny. Started spacing out and could barely get through the voting. I did though. But it seemed like those specific machines were worse than even computers because the effect was almost immediate. Who all did this happen to ?

Lori, I hope you're doing better now. I plan on waiting until election day to vote myself.

What Emotions Do You Have After Realizing You Have Had Another Seizure?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lakeville, MA

For example, after it was confirmed by my sister that I had a seizure (I was talking to her and stop mid-sentence and went silent for a period of time all of which my conscious mind was not present) with a powerful aura before it, I was angry and frustrated with myself. Of course, a flaw in my character, also makes me feel guilty for "having let down my neurologist" by having the seizure. I "sensed frustration with me by him on Tuesday" that I cannot achieve long-term seizure free status with… read more

On Top Of You.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Tampa, FL

It may be a weird question. Have any of you had parents an family constantly on top of you, like if you was a baby. The reason I ask is because my mom is constantly on top of me no matter or where I'm at an it's annoying till the point I wind up catch a seizure. She does not let me be that she acts like I'm a three year old so does my family does the same that wind up wanted to disappear.
