Running

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Massaachusetts

So, I'm sure everyone's heard about the ultramarathon runner (I think that's what she does) who realized that when she's starting to have a seizure, if she runs, it doesn't happen. I was looking over my calendar to see when I've had seizures over the past several months and there was a month or so that I was running or walk/running daily and I didn't have any seizures at all. Maybe I'll become a marathoner. In the meantime, I've signed up for a 3 miler in a couple of weeks so better start again… read more

How To Avoid Food Triggered Seizures | Tonic Clonic Seizure Epilepsy | Rise Health

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
St George, UT

Seizures happen when brain cells (neurons) get electrically overloaded or "short circuited," which leads to a change of consciousness, collapse and usually convulsions.[1] Seizures are the main symptom of a brain condition called epilepsy, although many factors can trigger one-time or occasional seizures, such as stress, head injuries, dehydration, low blood sugar, some foods and a variety of chemicals found in food. No single food or food additive triggers seizures in everybody, but some people… read more

If It's A Real Feel Of 86°f, About How Hot Would A Public School Be?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Spring Valley, NY

My son is extremely heat sensitive. Overheating causes instantaneous seizures. I don't know about other places, but where I live the public schools aren't required to have ac. Yesterday we kept my son home, and as of now, he's home today.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

So happy to hear that they were able to fix this for you. Hopefully this will be of great benefit for your son all the others in his class.

Aura (symptom)

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
St George, UT

An aura is a perceptual disturbance experienced by some with migraine or seizures before either the headache or seizure begins. It often manifests as the perception of a strange light, an unpleasant smell or confusing thoughts or experiences. Some people experience aura without a subsequent migraine or seizure (see silent migraine). Auras vary by individual experience, some people experience smells, lights, or hallucinations. Less known, symptoms of the eye include disturbances, where the eyes… read more

Temporal Lobe Seizures, Triggers

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lake Los Angeles, CA

Have any of you found triggers for your episodes? I keep a log of whenever I have them, the severity, if I’m taking my meds regularly etc. I thought I was getting them when I was more on the stressed side, but I’ve been having them pretty frequently for the past week and haven’t been too stressed. They are so random. I won’t have any episodes for months at a time and then they just pop up out of no where. And it’s honestly the most terrible feeling, it’s almost indescribable. It’s that deja vu… read more
