Does Anybody Else Have Seizures That Were Caused At Birth?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Kansas City, KS

The umbilical cord wrapped around my neck and I inhaled poo at birth. I wasn’t breathing for a while and doctors say that is why I have seizures.

I've had seizures since I was 5 days old. The doctor used forceps to pull me out of my mother. In 1990 I had brain surgery. Up until about 2 years ago I was seizure free.

The exact reason we have seizures is because the lack of oxygen killed our brain cells and left us with permanent brain damage

I don't know. I was a very difficult forceps delivery. Some doctors say that could be a cause and others don't. Not much help here I am afraid.

I had Neonatal seizures at birth. Unfortunately her doctors didn't give my mom a good explanation as to what happened. That information would have been helpful in Seventh grade, when I started to exhibit seizure activity.
