Have You Ever Been Accused Of Being Intoxicated Because You Had A Seizure?
It happened to me in February 2023.
I had a Grand-Mal Seizure. When I regained consciousness, I called 911.
An ambulance came. Instead of documenting that I had a Grand-Mal Seizure, they wrote that I was intoxicated because I could not communicate clearly. I sometimes find it difficult to communicate clearly if I have a Grand-Mal Seizure.
When we arrived at the hospital, the nurse wanted to do a blood test. I'm needlephobic; therefore, I panicked. I was not treated kindly when I panicked. Iā¦ read more
Yes. I have also been accused of being intoxicated from my medication.
I am so sorry this happened to you. I agree with LoriNo, very unprofessional plus not a good hospital to go to. This has never happened to me because both times I was taken to the hospital after having a grand mal seiure I was unconscious and my husband was with me. If 911 or any hospital had thought I was drunk instead of treating my seizure my husband would have perhaps been arrested for going off on 911 and the staff at the hospital.
Is there another hospital you can go to? Where I live, there are only two hospitals, and 911 will ask you which hospital you want to be taken to. In my care, 911 knew the neurologists were at the hospital farther from my house.
I kept trying to remember when and what but now I remember. I was a student and also a timekeeper for the basketball teams at the local campus .
I was driving home from the college and had a seizure on the campus. I hit a guardrail. Next thing I know I'm in the front office with a security guard and an assistant dean. They felt I was drunk and were waiting for local police. I asked them to contact their athletic director which they did and he let them know I have epilepsy and this was a seizure. They let me go but instead of asking me if I was OK, they told me I had to pay for the rail. š
I have been accused of being on drugs when I came out of a seizure by mall security, which is one step up from dressing up as a cop at Halloween. Luckily I was with someone who chewed them out and set the situation straight.
Never thought of being drunk, but of course there's obvious differences. Too bad, you hooked up with someone who can't discern between the two.
