Seizures For More Than 40 Years, Information

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
East Hartford, CT

If you read my profile I posted what happened to me and how things worked out.

The most important thing to tell you is you may need an adjustment in medication. This may not work for you but it may and you must talk to your doctor about it.

When i was young i failed in school no matter how hard i tried. At about 20 i had a seizure. When i went to the doctor he prescripted Dilantin to me. It made me sick and dizzy every time I took it so I wouldn't take it.

I went to the doctor and… read more

Different Alternatives To Help With Bed Wetting, That Are Discreet?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Derbyshire

Most of my seizures happen in my sleep, and about 90% of the time I do wet myself. It can range from a tiny bit to a hole lot. I've tried normal period pads. And maxi pads. But, they always leak :(

During my stay in hospital they gave me adult diapers which was extremely embarrassing but 100% helpt! However because some nurses made fun of me for wearing them, I can never bring myself to buy them. I panic every time I see them in shops. I know my mum and stepdad would never make fun of me for… read more

Like Mattyicey said Would you rather wear diapers or have an accident in public with everyone knowing it was you. Because of the smell or the look of your bottom half. If it was me I would wear the… read more

Keppra And Frisium During Pregnancy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Melbourne, AU

Hi Everyone,

I've had JME epilepsy for 20 years. I was always on Epilim which kept me pretty well seizure free. A while back, my fiancé and I decided that we would change meds as recommended by my neurologist so that we can have a baby.

It wasn't as easy as first expected and I had a couple of seizures, trying to transfer over to Keppra. My neuro added Frisium which seems to have worked and I'm now over a year seizure free.

I am also now 19 weeks pregnant. Reaching the half way mark, I am… read more

Transportation

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Conroe, TX

Idk about anyone else but not being able to drive because of epilepsy does cause difficulty in my life plus bring my confidence a little lower than it should.
For others who might have this issue let me know how you handle it. Thanks I hope you're having a great Saturday!😀

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I myself, since driving a car was out of the question. I went with riding a recumbent bicycle instead. For one you're not having to fill a gas tank.(Except for your stomach) You're not limited to just… read more

Occurrence Of Seizures

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Houston, TX

My question has to do with a seizure occurring. I was just wondering if anyone can feel when a seizure, mostly an absence seizure is about to take place? The reason for me asking is because whenever I have an absence seizure sometimes I may sense it about to happen but most of the time it just comes out of nowhere and when it does I'm lucky to have my wife or others around me. There are also times when I do have tingling in my hands and legs and when that does happen I try to control it so I… read more

Does Anyone Forget To Eat?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Anderson, SC

Does anyone ever forget to eat? I want to know if it's the epilepsy or me. Because I have had problems in the past with anorexia & bulimia. Especially after my son was murdered. I was smaller than our neighbors daughter. She was 11 years old!! : ( But that was before I had epilepsy. Since I've had it, I just forget to eat! I never get hungry. My Goddaughter who lives next door to me calls me everyday and reminds me to eat. Or either comes over here. My thyroid doesn't make any hormones. I've… read more

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Albany, NY

Sometimes I experience depression and mood swings. I have been diagnosed also with a mood disorder and I'm curious as to whether it could be related to the epilepsy. Does anyone else experience this?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I feel I do also, so I will be asking my Dr. about the depression and moods.
