Has Anyone Ever Not Got A Job And Felt Like The Reason Is Because You Have Epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Rayleigh, UK

I applied for a job a few weeks ago and I've got lots of experience in this particular area but there were people who applied with no experience and who applied later than I did and received the job. The only thing they have that I don't, is the fact they're not epileptic. Anyone else ever been on the receiving end of something like this?

Does Epilepsy Cause Unnatural Fear?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Antonio, TX

My son is 7 years old and he does not want to sleep by himself or with a sibling. He wants to sleep with my husband and I all the time. I am wondering is this normal or does it have to do with the epilepsy in some way or form. He says he is scared and just can't sleep on his own. This has been happening since he started having seizures in 2015 a little more now. Before seizures he slept on his own without a problem. He does sometimes complain about hearing noises and just about freaks out with… read more

It can, but probably because of how many people have fear around you. My parents have been so sheltered. Doing it for so many years, I think they’ve put some fear in me (which is something I’m… read more

Anyone Else Write Poems Regarding Epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Dublin, IE

Does anyone else write poems about having seizures? I often use them when I speak to a group about epilepsy as a great icebreaker. Sometimes people find talking about their epilepsy on front of large groups rather daunting and can often trigger a seizure - that used to happen to me even in front of small groups but once I brought humour into my presentations it totally changed my mindset and put people at ease. You often forget that those listening to you know little or nothing about… read more

Does Any1 Get Fed Up Of Explaining Yourself To Outsiders?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
London, UK

Does any1 get fed up of explaining yourself to outsiders?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Absolutely. It's exhausting, especially when the person honestly doesn't care. People think I must be mostly okay because I have partials and not tonic-clonic. The whole "well you don't look sick"… read more

Headache To Seizure

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

What causes (has anyone had) a mild headache that has turned into a migraine that has turned into a seizure? Have you seen this pattern and been able to avoid the seizure?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

No. Mine just goes from being normally healthy to the Aura, to a seizure....or maybe no seizure. REALLY frustrating not knowing if its gonna happen or not.

I Have Right Temporal Lobe Epilepsy And I'm Currently On Vimpat. Anybody Out There Have Vivid Or Weird Dreams?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Halifax, NS

I have right temporal lobe (lesions on the right side)epilepsy and I'm currently on Vimpat. Anybody out there have vivid or weird dreams? Some of mine are extremely life like and some are weird enough that I probably would tell them to anybody. Some of them stick in my memory even when I wish they wouldn't.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I have very wild and vivid dreams. Sometimes I feel special to have them other times I feel that I see why people are afraid to fall asleep. I see my deceased parents about every night.

Dizzy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Gold Coast, AU

Does anyone experience dizzy spells? The past few days I have been incredibly dizzy, short intense spells lasting only seconds, numerous times a day.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I have them once in a while. I had one the other day getting ready for work. I stopped for a moment and rested and then was fine. It's scary because I then drive my son to school and head to work, but… read more

Child

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

I know a lot of you have children with epilepsy which I know you look after well but my comment is this - speaking as an adult with epilepsy sometimes I don't want to be treated as a child. I know our partners and family just want to care but as the saying goes - we can't be wrapped up in cotton wool!

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Couldn't agree more SallyC I've let people know I don't need pity or to be wrapped up in cotton wool
I'm to independent to ask for help if I need it I sort it myself

Are You A Perfectionist Too?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Massachusetts

Ever since I got sick and got diagnosed with epilepsy, I've become a neat freak and a perfectionist. My handwriting is what I obsess over the most. I am incredibly picky when it comes to my handwriting and worry and stress over it much more than I should. For some reason, when I write a word, sentence or letter and don't like how it looks, I feel the need to erase it and rewrite it. I don't know why. In my head I tell myself it looks fine, but it's like my hands won't listen. I take so much time… read more
