Lamictal And Osteoporosis

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
California, CA

I've read that there are studies confirming that Lamictal use significantly increases the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women. My docs have never raised this issue. Given that I'm no spring chicken and that osteoporosis is a very real concern for mature women this "oversight" by my docs is of serious concern to me. Just wondering if any of your medical teams have raised this issue with you. It seems like adding a calcium supplement should be a regular recommendation whenever there's a… read more

Anyone On Carbemazepine Experience Itching?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Perris, CA

I've recently noticed I'm itchy all over without a rash. I've been keeping up with moisturizing because winter usually brings on dry skin, but it doesn't seem to be helping and the medication is the only relatively new part of my routine in terms medications or products that I use.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I had the same experience with my tablets

Gluten Free

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Corona, CA

Has anyone here done a Gluten free diet to see if that helps with the seizures? My sister is a Med student and is studying the brain right now and has read that diet has everything to do with how your brain functions. She suggested I try going Gluten free...I'm thinking about it. (It's a big commitment)

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I can just barely afford food so diets I never make it to.l

Anyone Have A Hard Time Talking?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Klamath Falls, OR

Ever since I had my first and only grand mal seizure last January, I've had a really hard time talking. With almost every conversation I have I will mess up words that use to be no problem for me. It almost feels like as if my mouth is deformed. At first I thought it was because I talk to fast but when I slow myself down in a conversation then it'll trigger a absence seizure and I won't be able to talk at all.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

During my adolescence through my teens , I had struggles with talking. I did a lot of stuttering . Especially when I tried talking fast.

Today I’m not so bad. I still stutter now and then . Just not… read more

I have temporal lobe epilepsy and sometimes i can feel really happy for no apparent reason and other times i can feel so low it's ridiculous, and the moods are always accompanied with a stuffy head, almost like a hangover, Could it be linked to the epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I am almost always stuffy. I attribute it to allergies and small nasal and ear, etc passages, a nurse told me that. My father had tons of allergies, too but a nurse told me I had small ear passages… read more

Has Anyone Else Noticed Sounds As A Seizure Trigger?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Simpsonville, SC

I have noticed one of my triggers is audio related (answering of a cell phone for instance or when I call someone and it starts ringing) as opposed to visual triggers. Has anyone else noticed this? Lights flashing do not bother me at all but certain pitches and sounds can trigger an aura for me... typically involving cell phones.
